Today, I’ll be celebrating my country’s Indepence Day. In America, it’s a holiday and a day to be spent enjoying the summer weather at the pool or a cookout with friends and family. At the end of the night, communities all over the country have firework displays to celebrate the end of the night.
I’ll be taking part in all of those activities today. I’m planning to go to the pool with the kids, cooking out with family and friends, having a beer or two, and then going to our local park for fireworks. Every year I’m amazed at how fortunate I am to be born into country where I’m able to take a day off of work to celebrate my home with family and friends and later at night watch rockets explode in the sky and not feel afraid.
I think about all the people who sacrificed their lives so I could live in a country that’s free. That I can have the opportunity to make a living and provide for my family. All of it was because of pure coincidence. I had no decision in it. The only thing I can do is to continue to make the most of the opportunities I have in my life.
Don’t worry about what other people are doing. Don’t beat myself up over things I can’t control. Focus on my goals and the process. Without caring about the process I can never get to where I need to be.
This Fourth of July I’ll be thinking about all of these things while I enjoy the day. Feeling grateful for my life. Then tomorrow I’ll refocus on what I need to achieve to earn the lottery ticket I won when I was born.
