Now, I read a lot. One of my goals for the year was to read a book a week. Back in high school, it was a different story. I was one of those kids that used to brag about how little I read. I was an idiot.
The one thing I’ve noticed from reading a lot of books is that it’s turned into a type of procrastination. I always feel like i need to read another book so I can do whatever it is I want to achieve. It could be a book on accounting, Python, finace, entreprnuership, brewing beer, public speaking, writing, or whatever before I feel comfortable. I love reading but I don’t what my reading to turn into a form of procrastination. I don’t want to focus on what I haven’t read as a reason to why I should hold off on starting a side hustle for example.
I should have a side hustle going for as long as I’ve been thinking and reading about it. Gary Vaynerchuk doesn’t read at all. His reasoning is that he simply doesn’t learn from reading books. He feels like he learns the most from actually doing or observing. I respect his honesty but I don’t want to quit reading because I love it and it has changed my life. My goal is to not allow my reading, and really the books I haven’t read, to be the reason I put off starting something today.
Don’t wait, start.
There is no book that will solve all you problems. They can assist you but no will do the work for you. There is no book that can replace the work.
