Does your company have an id badge you need to use to get into your building? Have you ever lost or misplaced that badge? Then the whole day your either calling someone to let you in or knocking on the door. It’s not fun and depending on how many times you were planning to leave your area it can be a real pain.

I think this is how the job search can feel at times. Most candidates are just knocking on doors trying to see if someone will walk past to let them in the building. They might knock on a hundred doors hoping one person will answer them.

Have you ever felt like you’ve experienced this feeling? You send out 100 resumes hoping someone will call you back like a single person waiting for a phone call after meeting someone at a bar. Then once someone finally does call you back you’re so thankful you’ll agree to almost any circumstances.

If this sounds like your situation then you’re doing a number of things wrong. No situation that begins this way will never turn into a good situation.

People of the opposite sex like other people who are confident.  You don’t want to be with someone who’s needy, jealous, or always needs reassurance. Employers don’t want those types of employees either. Instead, figure out what you want to work on, where you want to work, and who you want to work with.  Then get involved in projects that allow you to showcase your skills.  Whether you like it or not you’re selling a product. Figure out what benefits you offer by completing your own projects with your own initiative. Then share that work.  You might be surprised to learn that someone our there is looking for someone like you to do the job you’ve always wanted.

In your career and in relationships there are always two options.  You can either be the pursuer or pursued. But hopefully not in a creepy way.
