Yesterday, I completed my first project on Free Code Camp, Build a tribute page. It’s a part of the new Basic Front End Development Projects section they created to allow users to practice the HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap, and jQuery they learned in the first few Waypoints in a basic project before moving on to the JavaScript Waypoints.  I have three challenges left in the Basic Algorithm Scripting section but I decided to take a break to complete the new basic projects that were added this past weekend.  Plus, it would be the first time I used CodePen.

CodePen is great.  Easy sign up, simple tutorial, and a design that allows you to write all your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript off to the side while seeing your changes updated in the display screen. The first project, Build a tribute page, is pretty simple.  It took me less than a day to create and it was good HTML practice since I haven’t done those tutorials for some time.  Here is my completed tribute page. I didn’t waste much time putting a whole lot of thought into who to select.  I selected Seth Godin because he’s inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and do a lot of things, like this daily blog and coding, I wouldn’t have done before.

There are still a few things I’d like to update on this tribute page to make it look exactly like the example on the lesson.  I need to fix the responsive design on the Bootstrap thumbnail and the margins on the timeline, quote, and links so they are not the same width as the thumbnail. I could probably nitpick this project for hours but I also want to move along to the next project, Build a Personal Portfolio Webpage.

If you have any suggestions on how to improve this page, helpful links to read about writing code or any of the technologies mentioned above, then send them to me on Twitter.

On to the next project.
