It’s Okay To Write About Perfect Strangers

I’ve been reading and writing about Mark Levy’s book, Accidental Genius. In the book, there is a quote by Gary Vaynerchuk that is his advice about what you should write about on your blog.

If you know everything there is to know about the show Perfect Strangers, start blogging about that and embrace it like there’s no tomorrow.  If you live and breathe NASCAR, there’s your subject matter.”

Mark Levy writes the above quote another way, “Don’t write about a subject just because you think you should write about it.”

This has been one of my biggest problems when it comes to my past few years of writing and blogging.  For a while, I was writing about what I thought I should write about it, instead of writing what I wanted.  I’m still working hard to get away from this issue.  It’s a daily fight for me.

The reason you shouldn’t force yourself to write about a subject is simple.  You’re not going to be passionate about that subject which will lead you to either not write or write poorly.  Choose something you know and want to write, even if it’s about Perfect Strangers.
