Going to check out Kendrick Lamar’s, “good kid, m.A.D.D city”

Today I read an article in the New York Times Magazine about Kendrick Lamar.  I’ve heard of Kendrick Lamar when his alum was nominated seven times at last year’s Grammys.  I was unfamiliar with his music then and I still haven’t really listened to it.  But after reading the Times’ article I’m going to check out the album.  I think it’s a pretty good piece and paints him in a favorable light.  I’m really interested to see how his second album turns out.  It seems like the expectations are too high after what seems to be a special first album.  Plus a lot of hype and speculation after his Grammy loses.  What caught my attention was the dedication of Lamar.   In the article it mentioned several times that Lamar will do a show at night and then spend the hours afterward not partying but writing lyrics for his next album.  Also during his tour Lamar and his crew stay sober because he doesn’t want alcohol to dull his drive to succeed and complete a great second album.  It’s something I’ve thought about doing for a few years.  I’m not saying I want to give up alcohol but I’m thinking about now drinking during the week.  Then I can have a drink or two when I don’t need concentrate on my goals. This week, I’m going to try to get my hands on Kendrick Lamar’s popular album, good kid, m.A.D.D city, and check out what all the talk is about.
