Creating my Pick Four

This week, I’m thinking about what I want my Pick Four goals to be for the next twelve weeks. The Pick Four program is a workbook published by Seth Godin’s Domino Project, which is based upon Zig Ziglar’s teachings about goals. The workbook is designed to help you create important goals and track your weekly progress. These next few months are important; I need to increase my earnings enough to allow my wife to stay at home full time with our son. I’m not worried about the way I increase our income, I just need the number to rise, whether it’s through a new job or a side-hustle. In the next twelve weeks, I hope to make considerable strides to make the goal of my wife being at home a reality, along with a few other things, like better health & fitness, improving my programming, and writing. I imagine my goals will consist of the four important aspects going on in my life.

Career
Family
Writing
Fitness

I think these four areas are a good way to balance my work-life goals. My last Pick Four was too biased on my career which caused me to struggle completing those goals on a daily basis. I think the final decision will end up being something like this:

Career
Have something to do with learning new skills to help me find job opportunities, whether it is to complete a Location Based Service Android app or learning to program a language on Code Academy or another learning website, like Programming the Hard Way.

Family
I’m sure this goal will be centered on the idea of having my wife become a stay at home mother. The purpose of the goal will be to spend different days on my job search, our finances, and think of ways to create a side-hustle to earn extra income. Don’t wait for someone to do this for me. Choose myself and create my own opportunities.

Writing
This goal will be about how I need to continue to write 750 words and publish a blog post on a daily basis. I’d like to focus this goal on how to create a specific theme for my blog or building a website from scratch to eventually showcase my portfolio and link to my blog.

Fitness
This goal will center on my main fitness & health goals for 2014, which is to complete each section of a Half-Ironman. To do this, I need to complete a Half-Marathon, which I’m currently training for, a little over a one mile swim, and a 60 mile bike ride. Two things I need to complete two of those events are a road bike and a wetsuit. My goal will be to complete all three of these events in the next 12 weeks. Maybe I’ll try a half ironman in the fall.
